O. T. Bassett Tower
This postcard shows the O. T. Bassett Tower, probably in the 1930s. In 1930, Charles N. Bassett built the Bassett Tower as a memorial to his father, Oscar T. Bassett, a pioneer El Pasoan who was one of the founders of El Paso’s first bank, The State National Bank of El Paso, which was organized in March 1881. Henry C. Trost was commissioned to design the building. Characterized by its Art Deco style of the Southwest, popular in the late 1920s and 1930s, the building rises fifteen stories at the northeast corner of Texas Avenue and Stanton Street. The Tower is registered in the National Register of Historic Places, which highlights it's rich and detailed decor. In 2017 Lane Gaddy was remodeling this treasure to become hotel.

On Nov. 5, 2023 Charles Nebeker Bassett was inducted into the El Paso County Historical Society Hall of Fame. He was born in Clinton, Indiana Oct. 8, 1880. He moved to El Paso, TX in 1900. Bassett had extensive properties in the city and in the Southwest. He was owner of the chain of Gateway Hotels in the region, including the Hotel Gateway downtown. Basset held various civic and financial offices including presidency of the El Paso Chamber of Commerce. Bassett Place, built in 1962, was named for him.
In 2017 Lane Gaddy was remodeling this treasure to become hotel.
