Oscar Thomas Bassett

Oscar Thomas Bassett conocido como "O.T." nació en el condado de Rutland, Vermont en 1850. Se unió al Ejército de los Estados Unidos y más tarde se desempeñó como contratista con experiencia en ventas de madera en Clinton, Indiana. Se mudó a Fort Worth, Texas y finalmente llegó a El Paso. Su matrimonio con Mrytle A. Nebeker pudo haber sido el motivo por el cual llegó al condado de El Paso. Bassett se encargó de evaluar la tierra en nombre del Ferrocarril de Texas y el Pacífico. Esto incluía minas en el estado de Arizona que se veian muy prometedoras. Se mudó a El Paso permanentemente en la década de 1880. Bassett se desempeñó como Presidente del First National Bank of El Paso. Su participación en el negocio de la madera lo hicieron muy rico. En 1882, se desempeñó como Presidente de la junta escolar de El Paso. Además, Bassett era miembro del consejo de la ciudad. Bassett era un orgulloso albañil y pertenecía a El Paso Lodge No. 130 A.F. &A.M. Su cuñado Byrd Aquila Nebeker fue presidente de 1888 a 1889 y lo introdujo a la fraternidad. Su hijo construyó la torre Bassett en honor a su padre. La propiedad fue adquirida por el filántropo Paul L. Foster y ha sido remodelada. Bassett, California lleva su nombre. Está enterrado en el Cementerio Evergreen de El Paso.
