Lincoln Park Murals
Lincoln Park Murals
Photograph of South-facing murals at Lincoln Park in Central El Paso. Located underneath the 1-10/1-54 exchange in El Paso, Texas– Lincoln Park, (also known as Chicano Park) is home to more than fifty murals painted by community artists. It serves as a gathering space for lowrider car clubs, city sports and family picnics. As a major grassroots cultural hub, Lincoln Park can trace its early twentieth century roots to Lincoln School, the school for Mexican children and youth before desegregation. Naturally, the murals painted along the pillars that sustain traffic, reflect the region’s roots, Mexican history, the Chicano Civil Rights movement and each artist’s unique style. Today, the murals and the park stand as an homage to the people that inhabit these borderlands.
