Capitan John Hughes - Guardabosques de Texas - El Paso, Texas

En 1886 varios caballos suyos y de ranchos vecinos fueron robados. Hughes rastreó a los ladrones por varios meses, matando a unos de ellos y capturando al resto. Regreso los caballos robados a sus legítimos dueños. Con esta hazaña alcanzó gran notoriedad tanto de los prófugos de la ley como de los guardabosques de Texas. En agosto de 1887, Hughes fue persuadido a integrarse a los guardabosques de Texas. Para 1893 ya había ascendido al rango de sargento en la Compañía D del Batallón Frontier.
