man-size scorpion at Northeast Regional Park
A man-size scorpion and an equally large vinegaroon stand at the entrance of Northeast Regional Park, at U.S. 54 and McCombs since 2011. The two creatures are new sculptures made for the park by local artist Lars Stanley. The name of the two hand-made steel sculptures is "Rivals." They symbolize the spirit of competition, which is the park's primary use. Northeast Regional Park contains four baseball or softball fields and three large soccer fields. The project is funded from quality-of-life funds and the arachnids the sculptures reflect are native to the area's desert. Source: http://www.elpasotimes.com/communities/ci_18728836
