Mayor Magoffin met his wife Octavia McGreal in Houston/Galveston area. They married 1 March 1864. She was the daughter of a prominent plantation owner Peter MacGreal. She quickly became pregnant giving birth to their first child James Wiley Magoffin in 1865. Do not confuse the Mayor's wife with her grandchild Octavia "Tia" Magoffin, a single childless woman and art teacher. Manuel Acosta at Bowie High in El Paso, TX was one of her students.
