Dr. Norma Hernandez graduated from Texas Western College in El Paso, Texas in 1954. She pursued advanced degrees at UT Austin. Returning to El Paso, she became faculty in the UTEP College of Education in 1969. Hernandez was the first Hispanic academic dean when appointed in 1974. Her multicultural background brought new perspectives that influenced the course of education throughout the region.
