Plaza San Jacinto
Cuando el gobierno de los Estados Unidos arrendó parte de los terrenos del rancho Smith; en el lado opuesto Ciudad Juárez, anteriormente llamada El Paso del Norte; la armada de Estados Unidos comenzó a perforar una plaza. En 1881 la ciudad de El Paso le compró el lugar donde se encontraba la Plaza a William T. Smith. Smith había adquirido el lugar de los herederos del propietario anterior, Juan María Ponce de León, un prominente residente de El Paso, dueño del lugar desde 1827. Este sitio había alojado los corrales del rancho del Sr. Ponce de León. La administración de la ciudad retiró los mesquites secos y allanó el sitio arenoso y en 1903 los oficiales del condado nombraron plaza en honor de la batalla sostenida para que Texas obtuviera su independencia.
