El Gardner Hotel fue inaugurado en 1922 por Preston E. Gardner en 311 Oriente Franklin Ave. Debido a los temores de fuego en la década de 1920, el Gardner fue construido totalmente en acero haciendo que el hotel casi completamente a prueba de fuego. En 1930 el hotel fue vendido a William McMurray, quien lo vendió a Joseph George Nebhan después. Su hijo, John Nebhan, corrió como un hotel de jubilación 1.962 a 1.983. El actual propietario, Joe Nebhan (hijo de John Nebhan), se hizo cargo de la dirección del hotel en 1981. Comenzó a operar el hotel de El Paso como un albergue de El Paso y hotel en 1984. A día de hoy el Gardner hotel sigue funcionando como un hotel en medio de sus habitaciones. La otra mitad funciona como El Paso International Hostel. Gardner hotel tiene mucha historia, pero sobre todo, el 9 de enero de 1934, ladrón de bancos John Dillinger y dos miembros de su banda se registró en el Gardner hotel. Dillinger firmó el nombre de John D. Ball en el registro y se quedó en la habitación 221. Pero debido a Dillinger no rompió ninguna ley durante su estancia, el Departamento del Sheriff de El Paso no arrestarlo. Dillinger desprotegido unos días más tarde, pero fue capturado 25 de enero 1934, en Tucson después de haber sido reconocido por los bomberos que habían guardado su equipaje pesado de un hotel de la quema de allí. El hotel tiene una foto de John Dillinger justo cerca de la caja de efectivo de recepción. John Dillinger era un ladrón de bancos.
