Edificio Mills

El Anson Mills Building es un edificio histórico situado en 303 de la calle Norte Oregon en El Paso. El edificio se encuentra en el sitio original del rancho Ponce de León de 1832. Anson Mills contrató a Henry C. Trost de la empresa de arquitectura Trost y Trost para diseñar y construir el edificio. Trost fue un prominente pionero de la zona en el uso del armazón de concreto. Construido en 1910-1911, el edificio fue sólo el segundo rascacielos de armazón de concreto en los Estados Unidos y uno de los más grandes de todos los edificios de armazón de concreto. Elevandosé a 145 pies (44 m), el Mills Building de 12 pisos fue el edificio más alto de El Paso cuando quedo terminado. La empresa de arquitectura de Trost y Trost trasladó sus oficinas al edificio una vez finalizada, donde permanecieron hasta 1920. La familia Mills vendió el edificio en 1965. El edificio se halla en una esquina frente a San Jacinto Plaza, con una fachada hacia la calle que con gracia curvea alrededor de los lados sur y este. Como muchos de los diseños de Trost, la forma y fuerte verticalidad del Anson Mills Building, así como detalles de la ornamentación y la cornisa, son una reminiscencia de la obra de Chicago School de Louis Sullivan. En 1974 las ventanas del edificio Mills fueron reemplazados con bandas verticales de cristal de espejo, alterando radicalmente su apariencia.
