Plumbing and apartments, 3200 N. Piedras
Taken in 1968, NE corner of Piedras and Porter. My first apartment after getting out of the army was this “efficiency” upstairs over a plumbing store—that neon faucet blinked in the kitchen window above all night, giving the place the aura of a ‘30s noir film from Warner Brothers. (I learned that “efficiency” means you don’t have to take many steps to get from one room to another.) There was a “Murphy” bed that folded up into the closet. It was $75 a month. (In 2012 the plumbing store is gone, and in its place is a Spanish Seventh Day Adventist church.)
