El Paso Del Norte-Juarez - 1882

EL PASO DEL NORTE. Al llegar al Rio Grande desde el sur, exploradores españoles del periodo colonial observaron dos cadenas de montañas ascendiendo desde el desierto con un gran abismo en medio. Este sitio le llamaron El Paso del Norte, y se convirtió en el sitio de dos futuras ciudades fronterizas, Ciudad Juárez en el sur, a mano derecha de la ribera del Rio Grande y El Paso, Texas, al lado opuesto del rio. La llegada de la primera expedición española en El Paso del Norte en 1581 marco el principio de mas de 400 años de historia en la zona El Paso. Fue seguida en 1598 por la expedición a colonizar bajo el mandato de Juan de Oñate. El 30 de abril, 1598, una ceremonia cerca del actual San Elizario, Oñate tomo posesión formal del territorio entero secado por el Rio Grande y trajo la civilización española a El Paso del Norte.
