Gloria Osuna Pérez: Beyond Portraits April 19 - August 7, 2019 Dede Rogers Gallery, El Paso Museum of Art Gloria Osuna Pérez (b. 1947, d. 1999) depicted people with deep, cinnamon-colored skin, making them appear more than portraits of friends and family. The artist, who painted but also worked with clay, called her paintings “supraportraits,” meaning beyond or above portraits. This exhibition, drawn from the El Paso Museum of Art’s collection and including key loans, features several of Osuna Pérez’s paintings, an installation, as well as original book illustrations that suggest for her the idea of a vessel was always present. Gloria Osuna Pérez may have turned to her own family and life for inspiration, but her images of people—children with elders, life-long friends—are universal. They speak to the vessels that bind people and community for us all. Support for this exhibition is provided by the El Paso Museum of Art Foundation.

Gloria Osuna Pérez: Más allá de los retratos Abril 19 - Agosto 7, 2019 Galería Dede Rogers, Museo de Arte de El Paso Gloria Osuna Pérez (nacida en 1947 y fallecida en 1999) representaba a personas con una piel profunda de color canela, lo que les hacía parecer algo más que retratos de amigos y familiares. La artista, que pintaba pero también trabajaba con arcilla, llamaba a sus cuadros "supra-retratos", es decir, más allá o por encima de los retratos. Esta exposición, que procede de la colección del Museo de Arte de El Paso e incluye préstamos clave, presenta varios de los cuadros de Osuna Pérez, una instalación, así como ilustraciones originales de libros que sugieren que para ella la idea de una embarcación siempre estuvo presente. Gloria Osuna Pérez puede haber recurrido a su propia familia y a su vida en busca de inspiración, pero sus imágenes de personas -niños con ancianos, amigos de toda la vida- son universales. Hablan de los lazos que unen a las personas y a la comunidad para todos nosotros. El apoyo a esta exposición es proporcionado por la Fundación del Museo de Arte de El Paso.
