H. L Washington
A young H. L Washington - El Paso, Texas. He was born January 1, 1890 in West Point, Texas. He was the second child of Maria Moppins Smith and Aaron Smith. He attended Prairie View College and Western University in Kansas, which prepared him for a career in the field of education with major interests in Industrial Arts. He moved to El Paso, Texas in 1940 with his wife Florence. After the death of Florence, he was married to the late Bernice Holden Washington. His teaching career began in the rural elementary schools of Texas and extended into Kansas, at Western Reserve University, into Tennessee at Greenville College, Southern Christian Institute in Mississippi and Prairie University in Texas.
After retiring from the teaching profession, he worked for the Southern Pacific Railroads in El Paso, until his second retirement in 1964.
