El Paso Scottish Rite - 2017 Teacher with two of her students. Designated in the original blue prints as the "Degree Room", for decades the El Paso Scottish Rite Theater was the unknown gem of El Paso theaters. Designed specifically for the conferral of the Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite degrees, the theater has always managed to attract a wider audience. One story has it that in the 1930's, a man tuning his car radio received a weak broadcast from an amateur orchestra and was impressed enough to stop and listen. From the announcers dedication, he heard the group was performing in at the Scottish Rite Temple's theater, so he turned his car around, headed there, and recruited those musicians to play under his direction. Thus was founded the El Paso Symphony Orchestra. Predating the renowned El Paso Plaza Theater by seven years, The El Paso Scottish Rite Theater is among the oldest active theaters in the region and hosts a wide variety of events from the performing arts to weddings and conferences. The Theaters Fly Gallery contains 80 drops capable of portraying 152 different scenes. The drops we have hanging today where installed in August of 1947 and are hand-painted. Rito escocés de El Paso - El Paso, Texas - 2016

Fotografía tomada en diciembre de 2016 - después de la tradicional ceremonia de iluminación navideña en San Jacinto Plaza. Las esfinges que custodian la entrada al templo fueron moldeadas en Perth Amboy, Nueva Jersey, por la Federal-Seaboard Terra Cotta Company (que dejó de operar en 1968) y fueron enviadas a El Paso por camión. De principio a fin, con las dos esfinges aseguradas en sus bases, tomó un período de 10 meses, con la colocación final el 26 de septiembre de 1966. Cada esfinge tiene 10 pies de largo y pesa 4.000 libras. La dedicación oficial tuvo lugar en la Reunión del Rito Escocés el 20 de octubre de 1966. De los nueve cuerpos del rito escocés en Texas, El Paso fue el primero en tener esfinges, y posteriormente se hicieron arreglos para donar un par por parte de los cuerpos de El Paso al consistorio de Waco. Las esfinges del rito escocés de El Paso son las esculturas más grandes del terracota de un solo-molde en el mundo. Terracota es una cerámica a base de arcilla, impermeable, a fuego y sin esmaltar.
