Photo: Rosa Guerrero takes time to talk to photographers after performing in the year 1974. Rosa Ramirez Guerrero of El Paso, Texas, is an artist, educator, dance historian, and humanitarian. Her efforts have enhanced her commitment in promoting cultural awareness around the United States. Rosa Guerrero - Dancer

Photo :Rosa Guerrero Dancer performing for the CIA during Hispanic Month. Rosa Guerrero is an artist, educator, dance historian and humanitarian, who is committed to promoting understanding between cultures. A teacher in the El Paso public schools for 20 years, Guerrero developed the first intercultural school programs. She has been awarded Life Membership with the Texas PTA and was the first Hispanic woman in El Paso to have a school named in her honor, Rosa Guerrero Elementary. She is the founder and artistic director of the international Folklorico Dance Group. Her film Tapestry, on creating cultural harmony and understanding, was honored with a national award for documentary film making. She has since developed Tapestry II, the sequel. Guerrero has been the recipient of many honors, including Outstanding Woman in the Arts (Women's Political Caucus), Outstanding Woman Artist in El Paso (the Mexican American National Association), one of the Outstanding Hispanics in the Southwest (Adolph Coors, Co.), and Outstanding Hispanic of El Paso (The University of Texas at El Paso). Among her other awards are the Valley Forge Freedoms Foundation Award, the LULAC Arts and Humanities Award, the Human Relations Award (Texas State Teachers Association), the Good Samaritan Award (Catholic Media Ministries of El Paso), Sertoma Service to Mankind Award, the Arts Alliance Individual Dance Award, and her continuous support of the advancement of Hispanic women. http://academics.utep.edu/Default.aspx?PageContentID=674&tabid=11704
