Washington Gardens

Washington Gardens

Washington Gardens, is now the location for El Paso Zoo. On Jan 18, 1910, city council decided to accept a donation of five deer to be housed at Washington Park to start a zoological garden. A coyote was found on San Antonio Street on Oct. 11, 1910 and become a resident, the zoo continued to grow and on Nov. 23, 1956, Mona the elephant, arrived and was perhaps its most popular resident, until her death in October 2001 at the age of 52. http://www.elpasotimes.com/ci_23745698/washington-park-became-zoo-1910
