Patrick Floyd "Pat" Garrett
Left, Pat Garrett; right, John W. Poe, who succeeded Garrett; center , James Brent, who came a short time after Poe. Pat Garrett was Sheriff of Lincoln County and is known for capturing and killing Billy the Kid in 1881. In 1901, President Theodore Roosevelt, who was a close friend, appointed him customs collector in El Paso. All three played a part in suppressing the lawlessness of 1877-1881. This picture was taken in 1883 or 1884.
