This protest is one of several organized by M.A.Y.A. (Mexican American Youth Association) in and around the Diez y Seis de Septiembre throughout the Chicano Civil Rights Movement. The Farah Strike, which involved mostly Chicana workers and sought union recognition, fair treatment of workers, better pay, and better working conditions, was supported by the Movimiento. Guys wearing the Aliviane tee shirts were staff of an anti-drug program existing at the time.
