Judge Gaylord Clarke

He studied law, and was admitted to the bar on July 19, 1869. In July, 1870, Governor Edmund J. Davis appointed him, as a Republican, Judge of the 25th Judicial District of Texas. He was shot dead in the street by lawyer Benjamin F. Williams after a gunfight between Williams and Albert Jennings Fountain in Ben Dowell's Saloon in El Paso. Image Description: Black and white photograph shows a portrait of Judge Gaylord Clarke. The image shows Clarke from chest up wearing a dark coat with a white shirt underneath that reaches his chin. At his neck is a type of ribbon tie, thick with two ends coming down the sides of his chest. His hair appears dark and is long and wavy, combed a bit back reaching to his ears in a voluminous manner.
