Etchings by Steve Edwards Virtual Exhibit

Etchings by Steve Edwards Virtual Exhibit

Also known as ‘Estéban’, Steve Edwards, artist, print-maker, was a native El Pasoan (1942 - 2010). A lifelong border city resident, Edwards attended Austin High School and graduated from the University of Texas at El Paso in 1964. He studied under Dr. Robert Massey for more than two decades where he refined his craftsmanship. Edwards adopted the Hispanicized version of his name, Estéban, when he created his retablo style santos. During his life, Edwards enjoyed representation at the Hal Marcus Gallery and the patronage of collectors such as Maureen Ponce Singleton. Edwards was a high school art teacher until his retirement in 1992 at which time he spent the remainder of his life focusing on his art. This collection is a generous donation to the El Paso Museum of History by Jim Singleton on behalf of the estate by his wife Mrs. Maureen Ponce Singleton. Mrs. Singleton was an enthusiastic collector of Steve Edwards' works and a generous advocate for the arts. This exhibition is dedicated to her benevolent support of the artist and the institution. Gift of Jim Singleton in honor of Maureen Singleton.
