Thomas J. Beall

Thomas J. Beall, a distinguished lawyer representing various corporations in El Paso, was born at Thomason, Georgia, on the 12th day of May, 1836. The family came originally from Virginia. His parents, however, Dr. Jerre and Susan B. (Neal) Beall, were both natives of Georgia. Captain Beall acquired his classical education in Tulane University at New Orleans and prepared for the legal profession at the Cumberland University at Lebanon, Tennessee, from which he was graduated as a law student in February, 1858. The same year he entered upon practice at Marshall and was admitted to the supreme court of the state in 1859. He is thus one of the oldest lawyers in Texas and the firm of Davis and Beall, established in Bryan shortly after the war, and continued as Davis, Beall and Kemp, in El Paso in 1876. Kemp-Smith (Bealls original firm) is one of the oldest law firm still practicing in El Paso.
