Buffalo Soldier
A salute to black cavalry soldiers, the sculpture by Jimmie Bemont is titled "Buffalo Soldier: The Errand of Corporal Ross". It was based on a painting by G. Robert Sneed (in which the galloping soldier is being chased by Indians as he fires back at them). The statue is just past the Robert E. Lee Gate, where Airway Blvd meets Airport Road.
