In January 1863 the second uprising explode in Poland : "Gone were the days of fervent American sympathy; a trend of praising liberal Moscow and the Tsar transcended the press into the country itself" wrote Polish historians in 1867. In 1863 at the same time that the January Uprising was taking place on Polish ground, the Russian Fleet paid a visit to New York and San Francisco. The rousing welcome and few months' stay of the ships in America was a testament to the friendly regard in which Americans held Russia, not only in terms of governmental relations but also a positive widespread public opinion.
