EPWater's 2018 Engineer Spotlight Veronica Galindo
EPWater's 2018 Engineer Spotlight Veronica Galindo
Veronica Galindo Utility Engineer Veronica Galindo loves solving problems. In school, she looked forward to problem sets and found great joy in discovering the answers. Today, Veronica is putting her problem-solving skills to use at El Paso Water as an engineer. While she originally started working on pipe extensions, she now collaborates with other agencies on pipe replacements. “Space is always an issue when replacing pipes. You’re dealing with street width, other pipes and equipment. It’s like a puzzle,” she says. “Unfortunately, you cannot see it when it is complete since it’s underground.” Veronica coordinates with various agencies to take advantage of open trenches, to update aging infrastructure and to move pipe when relocation is necessary. She takes pride in her engineering skills as well as the amount of communication and teamwork her projects require. “If you do not have pride in it, you should not be doing it. You are responsible for that work,” she notes. Veronica is an El Paso Native and has Bachelor’s and Master’s Degrees in civil engineering. She encourages young people to pursue their dreams. “Go for it. Try out some of the engineering clubs and robotics teams. Engineering is so broad that you can do anything with your degree.”
