Jonathan Rogers
Jonathan Rogers was a four-time El Paso mayor and founder, former chairman and chief executive officer of Bank of the West. Rogers received a business degree from Yale University in 1950, and was a classmate of the first President George Bush, Rogers participated in track and field and excelled at the hurdles at Yale. A Time Magazine article published in 1985 said that Rogers banned wearing coats and ties in El Paso from Memorial Day to Labor Day because of the sweltering heat during El Paso summers. He advised all El Paso men to wear guayabera shirts, and would cut off the ties of men who entered his presence wearing one. (per El Paso Times article written March 2007 by Darren Meritz)
