Dr. Walter N. Vilas
Dr. Walter N. Vilas was a major surgeon of the First Texas Regiment in the Spanish-American War and while he was in El Paso, he was the County Physician and City Physician for many years. He served as trustee of the public schools for many years and in recognition the Vilas School bears his name. Brother Vilas was a member of the El Paso Scottish Rite and El Paso Lodge # 130 A.F. & A.M. He was also a Pioneer.
