Zoo sign 9-5-2008
I have mixed feelings about zoos. They often strike me as being little more than depressing prisons for animals that haven’t committed any crimes. On the other hand, I do like being able to take pictures of tigers, lions, etc. without running for my life. And the animals do get free room and board and medical care without fear of being stalked. (Though in September of 2011 a new male tiger at the El Paso Zoo was killed by the resident female tiger. Well, Tennyson did note that Nature is “red in tooth and claw.”) So, every so often I put aside my misgivings about the whole zoo concept and go take some pictures.
