Emblem - 141st Regiment-2nd Battalion - Company E - 1941
Emblem - 141st Regiment-2nd Battalion - Company E - 36th Division - 1941 Company E, which was comprised of soldiers from Texas, mostly from the Segundo Barrio and Bowie High School, served in Italy. On a mission to Monte Cassino between Jan. 20-23, 1944, its members were ordered to cross the Rapido River in southern Italy. They walked into a fight with German forces that's now considered the greatest military blunder of World War II. Those who weren't killed were wounded or captured. The men were also instrumental in the liberation of Rome on June 4, 1944. http://www.freep.com/story/news/local/2015/06/04/men-company-e-honored-bravery-wwii/30879615/

My father Fermin J Padilla was a second Lt. from OCS school in 1943.He was court martialed at Rapido River for beating up his commander when he was ordered to do some recon. He told his commanding officer he only wanted one other soldier to go with him but was ordered to take a squadron according to my father . Shortly thereafter since there was too many men on this assignment they were ambushed and my father and one other soldier came back alive. He then beat up the officer so bad they sent him back to the states. Does anyone know him. They brought him back to the unit and he had a great 26 years non com career in the army made it back to sergeant. He was given a choice when they court martialed him to having this on his record and staying a Lt. or being busted all the way back and starting all over as private and his record would be cleaned up. My dad took the later . I feel my dad did not get his due process and said he felt it was racely motivated . Did anyone know my father?
