Camino Real Hotel - 2016
The historic Camino Real Hotel, known originally as Hotel Paso del Norte, has been serving discriminating travelers since it first opened in 1912. Designed by Henry C. Trost and built by wealthy El Paso businessman Zack T. White, the chateaux-style hotel set the standard for elegance along this frontier border region during the first half of the 20th century. European chandeliers, ornate mahogany carvings, black serpentine marble trim, Italian scagliola (a technique used to create architectural elements like columns and sculptures that resemble marble and stone inlays), and an enormous stained glass dome above the lobby designed by Louis Comfort Tiffany embellish the hotel.
