Mills Street Towards Pioneer Plaza
The photograph from 2009 captures Mills Street towards Pioneer Plaza. The yellow building to the right is the Cortez building. Once a renowned hotel marked by Spanish Colonial Revival Style structure, it now houses offices and smaller businesses. Behind it, one can see the Mills Building, which was built in 1911 as one of the tallest all-concrete buildings in the United States. To the left, the Plaza is visible. Opened in 1930, it was one of the city's most luxurious and modern hotels. It had to close its doors in 1991. The Robert-Banners Building in front of it is another example of reinforced concrete structure popular during the 1910s. All these buildings were designed by the architecture firm Trost & Trost.
