Concordia Cemetery - El Paso, Texas
Photo is from the Otis Aultman Collection. Description is as follows: "Photograph of Braulio Hernandez visiting a grave. Text on the back of the photograph reads: "Braulio Hernandez visiting grave of friend killed in battle May 1911." The grave marker to the right reads: "MARIANO RIOS, FALLECIÓ A LOS 27 AÑOS DE EDAD, MAYO 11 DE 1911, El Paso, Texas." The small headstone in the center reads: "Capitan D. Madrid." A car is visible in the background. Based on the description and Concordia's burial records, I am certain that this photo was taken in Concordia Cemetery sometime around early May of 1911. He is standing over the grave of Matias Saenz. Matias Saenz was a revolutionary soldier under Madero. He died of wounds received in the battle of Juarez. Several other "Insurrectos" are also buried in this tier (Northeast Addition, Section 2, Tier 12) Mariano Rios died of causes unrelated to the Mexican Revolution. The vehicle in the background would be facing north near the main entry on the north side of the cemetery near Yandell Blvd. (then Alamogordo St.). To date, this is the earliest photograph that I have seen of Concordia Cemetery.
