This long mural along Geronimo Drive in El Paso, Texas, between Montana and Edgemere, depicts a number of local sites and pieces of history. It was a project of the El Paso Millennium Community Celebration, painted in 1999. The stagecoach and the train, which are captured in this image, where both crucial for the development of El Paso: In the 1850s El Paso became a stagecoach stop for the Butterfield Overland Mail, which brought mail and passengers from Missouri to San Francisco. It connected the city with news and people from both coasts. In 1881 the railroad came to El Paso, which made El Paso a major trade stop. It lead to the growth and diversification of industries in the city, ranging from mining and smelting, cattle ranching and marketing to fabrication of jeans and cigars.
