Mary Lillian Reid Collingwood, April 1, 1922 - May 29, 2008. Memorial services for Mary Lillian Collingwood was on June 2, 2008 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Francis on the Hill Church. She was born in El Paso to Robert Lynn Reid and Lillian O'Bryan Reid. Lil graduated from Austin High School in 1939; she received a B.A. in English from UTEP in 1943. She married William Thomas Collingwood in 1945 in Buffalo, New York. In 1945 she received her M.A. in English from the University of Michigan. She was an Associate Professor of English at UTEP where she taught and chaired Freshman English. She edited the journal Password. She had many interests during her full life including, her love of Shakespeare, Bridge, and travel. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Bill Collingwood and their son William Lynn Collingwood. She is survived by her twin brother, Robert Reid of Waco and her husband Larry McManus of El Paso. Other survivors include her godchildren: Richard Elliott Gutman, Kathryn Alayne Hollis, Robert Reid Hollis; her step-grandchildren: Marcos, Alex, and Christian Peña; and close friends: Carolyn Tanner, and Caren and Dale Hollis. The family suggests that memorials be made to the Robert L. Reid Trust Fund at Baylor University or the charity of your choice.
