President Harry Truman Visits El Paso, Texas
September 26, 1948. First person the President looked for when he alighted from his special train at Union Depot Saturday morning was Re. Ken Regan of the 16th District. "Where's Regan?" the President asked as photographers moved in for pictures. Mr. Truman searched the group and asked again, "Where's Ken?" Regan was traveling in a coach several cars ahead of the President and reached the platform before most of the party. The crowd began gathering in front of Union Depot about 7:30 a.m. according to W.G. Golden of the City Park Department, who was one of the guards assigned to hold seats for the Austin High School Band adjacent to the platform. Golden went on duty at 6 a.m. The President arrived at 11 a.m.
