Mother and Daughter - 1944
The daughter and mother were called Gloria Montelongo Chriss and Josefina Cordova Montelongo Baeza. Marissa Gonzalez - We know the identity of these amazing beautiful women! They are beloved in our family. Gloria, on the left, my dad's first cousin, is Josephina's (on the right) daughter. Gloria is very much still living, and vibrant and was/is well respected in her field of psychology both in her El Paso community and the larger community of psychologists beyond. She is an inspiration not only for her beauty, but for her accomplishments. Gloria is what is known as 'trailblazer', and is that in so many respects, while her mother Josephina was legendary amongst those who knew her for her devotion and grace. Both are examples of women with strength and a determination to succeed, and possessed/possess tremendous love and loyalty to their families. We love them too! I might add, joke tellers and loving to laugh, they sure had/have that joi de vivre. Their portrait was taken by the Casasola Photograph Studio. Alfonso Casasola, a member of a famous family of Mexican photographers, came to El Paso in the 1920s after several years in the Mexican consular service. He established the Casasola Studio (also known by its Spanish name, Estudio Casasola) at 511 S. El Paso Street and was active in many civic organizations. He died on February 17, 1948 at the age of 59, but his wife, Emma Flores Casasola, continued the studio for many years. They took pictures of many ordinary El Pasoans.
