In 1938, First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt visits the College of Mines and Metallurgy (Now known as UTEP). Roosevelt praised the recent renovations paid for by federal recovery funds, as well as complementing the school’s Works Progress Administration (WPA) painted murals—artwork now lost due to later renovations.
