Dr. Wayne Lane Lorentzen was a retired doctor of internal medicine and life-long El Pasoan. He was an accomplished artist and musician, and compassionate physician. Dr. Lorentzen was born December 4, 1924, the third child of Julius William and Ada Vivian Lane Lorentzen. He graduated with honors from El Paso High School in 1942 and served during World War II as a Navy yeoman aboard ship in the South Pacific. After the war, Dr. Lorentzen completed his Bachelor of Science at the College of Mines and Metallurgy and earned his Doctor of Medicine from the University of Texas Medical Branch in 1951. Following his residency in Galveston, he served as a medical officer in the active Naval Reserves, including a tour at the Naval Hospital in Corpus Christi. Upon discharge in 1963, Dr. Lorentzen returned to El Paso to begin his private practice in internal medicine. Over the years, he served as recording secretary of the McDowell Club, was a life member of the El Paso County Medical Society and the El Paso County Historical Society, and a member of the El Paso Pioneers Association, the El Paso Art Association and the Pastel Society of El Paso. He studied piano with the late Claude Herndon, and for many years he served as a choir soloist at The Pro Cathedral Episcopal Church of St. Clement where he was baptized and confirmed. He passed on August 11, 2009.
