Edwin Brooke Jones

E. B. Jones School in the Smelter District was named after Edwin Brooke Jones. For many years, students of Smeltertown attended Courschesne Elementary, about a mile from Smeltertown. If they could afford to continue their education beyond seventh grade, they attended El Paso High School. In the 1930s, E. B. Jones Elementary School, named after an administrator with ASARCO, was opened. E.B. Jones, ASARCO purchasing agent, former justice of the peace, and longtime Smelter School Board member and Chair. Children in grades one through four attended E.B. Jones and those in grade five through seven attended Courschesne.

I attended EB Jones Elementary School 1955 from the 1st grade to 3rd grade and then moved out of the area to North Loop, I believe. The Carlos Escandon family were housed there as I remember the playground lights used to be turned on in the evening for us to play on the swings etc. Nostalgic.

I believe my mother attended Jones School. Where would I find records of students? Please email at: [email protected]

Are there any historical records of students who attended E.B.Jones School from 1915 to 1921...I believe my grandmother Josefa Escandon may have attended school there.

Photo taken in El Paso, TX.

I would like to know if there are any pictures of E.B Jones elementary school. I attended from 1963 to 1967.

Are there any students from Jones/Courschesne elementary? If there are, it would be nice to have a reunion. I know a lady who always tells me about the old times. Email: [email protected]
