The Golden State Limited and the Union Station
The Golden State Limited and the Union Station
The postcard shows the train station of the Southern Pacific Railroad. Since the railroad was built in 1882, El Paso became a hub of activity and grew from a sleepy village to a bustling city. The red building in the back is the Union Depot, which was built in 1905-1906 by Daniel Burnham in this neoclassical Revival style. In order to build the station, six American railroad companies and the National Railway of Mexico pooled their resources, thus making El Paso the first international station in the United States, with service to and from Mexico.
