The Popular Dry Goods store, short "The Popular", was part of the Popular Dry Goods Company store chain founded by Adolph Schwartz. Schwartz was a member of El Paso Lodge # 130 A.F. & A.M. El Paso Lodge # 130 A.F. & A.M. owned and later rented to Brother Adolph Schwartz.The store in El Paso was opened in 1903 and moved to the location in the picture, 301 San Antonio Ave, in 1917. The Popular once was El Paso's largest locally owned department store but wet out of business in 1995. The building still stands today.
