As part of our “Black Survival Guide, or How to Live Through a Police Riot” and “Dolores Huerta: Revolution in the Fields / Revolución en los Campos” exhibits, we are celebrating the shared histories, struggles, and stories between Black and Chicanx cultures through food. During this hands-on workshop, visitors will be invited to prepare two recipes—one from the Chicanx culinary tradition, one from the Black culinary tradition—with a shared central ingredient that is common to both cultures. As the food is prepared, speakers will share more about how each culture’s foodways have evolved. As part of our “Black Survival Guide, or How to Live Through a Police Riot” and “Dolores Huerta: Revolution in the Fields / Revolución en los Campos” exhibits, we are celebrating the shared histories, struggles, and stories between Black and Chicanx cultures through food. During this hands-on workshop, visitors will be invited to prepare two recipes—one from the Chicanx culinary tradition, one from the Black culinary tradition—with a shared central ingredient that is common to both cultures. As the food is prepared, speakers will share more about how each culture’s foodways have evolved. Join us as we come together to explore the power of food—the ways in which food is grown/prepared/eaten, the ways in which food unites, and the ways in which food reflects our personal and shared identities.
