Rick Miller was given his first opportunity to coach baseball in El Paso by AABC West Texas Commissioner and El Paso Baseball Hall of Fame Honoree Mike Barrueta in 1985 coaching the Burges Devils to the West Texas Championship
His success led to the opportunity to become the Assistant Baseball Coach at Hanks High School under El Paso Baseball Hall of Fame Honoree and Head Coach Mike Williams
The Knights were Bi-District Champions twice, and Miller’s JV teams went 64-22 during those 4 years
In 1989, Miller became the Head Baseball Coach at El Paso High School, where he led the program to improved records in each season during his 3-year tenure
From 1992-2003, Miller served as Head Baseball Coach at Bel Air High School
In 11 years, the Highlanders went 191-117-5 with 10 consecutive winning seasons
The program won a District Championship in 2001 and Bi-District Championships in 1995, 1997, 1998, and 1999
The 2000 team was ranked 8th in the state by THSBCA
Miller was selected El Paso Times Coach-of-the-Year in 1995 and 1999

Joseph Coppinger is the youngest child of Mary and John Coppinger
“Joe” continued the family tradition as a 4-year letterman playing first base, third base and pitching for Coronado High School earning All District recognition from 1998 to 2000
Coppinger passed up the opportunity to sign with the Boston Red Sox opting to play at Junior College power Seminole State in Oklahoma
He led the squad in wins and strikeouts
Joe was drafted in the 7th Round in the 2001 draft by the Baltimore Orioles and played through the 2005 season in their farm system
Since 2005, Joe has been Paying it Back and Paying it Forward
He has used his gift of learning from the skill set taught by his Dad, a relentless pursuit of excellence preached by his Mom and watching his sister Denice and his brothers Rocky and Paul to share his Blessings with younger baseball players
His wife Cynthia and daughter Kylie are the driving spirit and soul of Joe’s continued mission to serve a life with a guiding purpose
Joe has used his past experiences with the ups and downs that the game of baseball partners in every player’s journey as a starting point for where he was to where his vision is taking him

In 2004 he was drafted by the Pittsburgh Pirates but opted to attend Oklahoma State University
The highlight of his 2005 season at Oklahoma State was beating Texas on April 24, 2005, 3-2 in a game televised nationally by ESPN
The start of his senior year at Oklahoma State ended with a torn labrum that ultimately required surgery
Baseball taught him how to handle adversity, which has allowed him to become successful in his professional career
He is married to Martha Rivas and they have two sons Ricardo Cruz and Joaquin Adrian.
