RICK MILLER

Elected in 2020 – Inducted in 2021 Rick Miller was given his first opportunity to coach baseball in El Paso by AABC West Texas Commissioner and El Paso Baseball Hall of Fame Honoree Mike Barrueta in 1985 coaching the Burges Devils to the West Texas Championship His success led to the opportunity to become the Assistant Baseball Coach at Hanks High School under El Paso Baseball Hall of Fame Honoree and Head Coach Mike Williams The Knights were Bi-District Champions twice, and Miller’s JV teams went 64-22 during those 4 years In 1989, Miller became the Head Baseball Coach at El Paso High School, where he led the program to improved records in each season during his 3-year tenure From 1992-2003, Miller served as Head Baseball Coach at Bel Air High School In 11 years, the Highlanders went 191-117-5 with 10 consecutive winning seasons The program won a District Championship in 2001 and Bi-District Championships in 1995, 1997, 1998, and 1999 The 2000 team was ranked 8th in the state by THSBCA Miller was selected El Paso Times Coach-of-the-Year in 1995 and 1999 As a Head Coach, Miller compiled a record of 216-159-5 From 2003-2012, Miller served as Assistant Coach at Grapevine High School As pitching coach, he developed 2 District Pitchers-of-the-Year, a District MVP, and 2 All-State pitchers In 2009, the Grapevine pitching staff had a team ERA of 1.86 and upset number 1 state ranked Coppell in the playoffs Coach Miller served on the THSCA Baseball Advisory Committee from 2007-2009 and as an Associate Scout for the Arizona Diamondbacks from 1999-2003 Miller spent 27 years as a Texas High School baseball coach He is Blessed sharing his life journey with Dianna and children Alece and Brandon

JORGE PEREZ

Elected in 2020 – Inducted in 2021 Jorge Perez was a member of two undefeated National Championship Teams in Mexico He earned RBI Champion in 1980 and MVP and Batting Champion honors in 1982 Perez won the HR Title In the 1985 National Tournament. Jorge played three years at Cathedral HS under Coach Derek Dominguez, earning 1st Team All-State Honors in 1990 and 1991 His batting average was .607 in 1991 earning him the TCIL State Batting Crown He pitched a No-Hitter in the season opener vs Montwood (14 K’s) and struck out 17 at the State Tournament against San Antonio Central Catholic in a 5-3 victory Finished 12-3 with a 1.51 ERA and 162 K’s in 81 IP Jorge was named 1st Team All-City, Sunturians Athlete of the Month in April, received the El Paso Baseball Hall Of Fame President’s Award and Senior Showcase MVP He played two years at NMJC under Coach Ray Birmingham hitting .449 in 1992, .444 in 1993 with 9 HR’s Jorge earned 1st Team All-WJCAC honors He finished his career at NMSU under Coach Elliott Avent in 1994-1995, hitting .388 as a Senior and led the team in HR’s (11) and RBI’s (49) Named 1st Team All-Conference and Big West Conference Player of the week in March 1995. Perez played for the Mexican National Team in 1998 and 2000 He also was a member of two Juarez State Championship Teams in 1996 and 2000 In 1996, led the State in Doubles, 2nd in total hits, 3rd in RBI’s In 2000, led the State in HR’s (51) His life journey is Blessed by his wife Armida and sons Jorge and Gabriel

JOE COPPINGER JR

Elected in 2020 – Inducted in 2021 El Paso Baseball Hall of Fame Brother/Brother Duo Member Joseph Coppinger is the youngest child of Mary and John Coppinger “Joe” continued the family tradition as a 4-year letterman playing first base, third base and pitching for Coronado High School earning All District recognition from 1998 to 2000 Coppinger passed up the opportunity to sign with the Boston Red Sox opting to play at Junior College power Seminole State in Oklahoma He led the squad in wins and strikeouts Joe was drafted in the 7th Round in the 2001 draft by the Baltimore Orioles and played through the 2005 season in their farm system Since 2005, Joe has been Paying it Back and Paying it Forward He has used his gift of learning from the skill set taught by his Dad, a relentless pursuit of excellence preached by his Mom and watching his sister Denice and his brothers Rocky and Paul to share his Blessings with younger baseball players His wife Cynthia and daughter Kylie are the driving spirit and soul of Joe’s continued mission to serve a life with a guiding purpose Joe has used his past experiences with the ups and downs that the game of baseball partners in every player’s journey as a starting point for where he was to where his vision is taking him His passion and focus for the game of baseball is present as a Coach and Mentor Using the power of words, Joe has made “Who are You?” the guiding force for his young players His goal is to “guide players on training and playing the game of baseball and life so they can better represent themselves, their families and their city.”

RICK RIVAS

Elected in 2020 – Inducted in 2021 Rick Rivas has played and excelled at all levels of baseball He is a strong ambassador for the quality of baseball played in El Paso, Texas His love for the game allowed him to overcome two major injuries, one being a broken radius and ulna, the other a torn labrum Earned All Conference honors for his play at the Junior College and Division 1 Level Secured a professional baseball contract at an open tryout with the Los Angeles Dodgers Earned NJCAA Academic All-American and Big 12 All-Academic honors In 2003 he was drafted by the Colorado Rockies In 2004 he was drafted by the Pittsburgh Pirates but opted to attend Oklahoma State University The highlight of his 2005 season at Oklahoma State was beating Texas on April 24, 2005, 3-2 in a game televised nationally by ESPN The start of his senior year at Oklahoma State ended with a torn labrum that ultimately required surgery Baseball taught him how to handle adversity, which has allowed him to become successful in his professional career He is married to Martha Rivas and they have two sons Ricardo Cruz and Joaquin Adrian.
