The cloud that will hang near the University of Texas at El Paso starting next week is not made of tiny droplets of water.
Instead, the sculpture titled "The Cloud," the latest city public art installation, will be composed of thousands of small steel flaps that will move with the breeze. The artwork is meant to complement UTEP's architecture, which is inspired by the Kingdom of Bhutan — also known as the "kingdom of clouds" because of its high elevation.
The work by renowned New York sculptor Donald Lipski will be installed at the Spur 1966 roundabout as part of the city's Public Art Program. The three-sided sculpture will sit atop a metal tripod about 50 feet tall that will straddle the roundabout.
