Add a commentYes the years are wrong. My brother Randy was member in the 60's and I was later in 77-79? Dr Thormasgaard had no time for foolishness. He knew what he wanted out of us.
I too was a member of the early choir. Dr. Thor tolerated me from 1961 to 1964. Karl's brother, Joe and I were the troublemakers at the time. Dr. Thor nickname Joe, "Wiggles."
Your dates are wrong for the El Paso Boys Choir. I was a founding member who auditioned in 1959 for the choir that Dr. E.A. Thormodsgaard started formally in 1960. Several of the founding members (at least 4 from the family of Hesters and Novaks) are still in contact with each other.
Women in Junior League of El Paso, TX helped make this experience possible. Their work should be acknowledged in Women's History Month in March every year.
I was a choir member from 1963 through1968 when my family moved away from El Paso. I will never forget the audition at what was then Texas Western College by a professor who I was told to refer to as doctor. He was the chair of the music department at Texas Western. Our rehearsals were held at the El Paso Art Museum after school.
The UTEP Professor was Dr. E A Thormodsgaard, the Chairman of the Music Department who along with Dr. High Cardon involved the choir in several performances with the El Paso Symphony including the annual “Nutcracker Suite”.
