Gabriel Hernandez inductee into the El Paso Athletic Hall of Fame. Gabe Hernandez was born on March 18, 1916, in Durango, Mexico. He came to the United States with his parents when he was eight. Gabe's dedication to the youngsters was summed up best, when in 1999, the City of El Paso issued a proclamation which reads in part, "Gabe has committed his life to the youth whom he has inspired, helped and encouraged to better themselves and break out of the barrio syndrome. He has taken hundreds of kids off the streets".
